COACH MATT FABRIZIO
Matt Fabrizio started coaching ice hockey with his father in 2002, shortly after he graduated from Penn State University. After coaching at Monsignor Bonner and Marple Newtown High School, Matt has been coaching at Episcopal Academy, a local prep school since 2014. He became Head Coach at Villanova in 2019, helping steer the team to a League Championship runner-up finish in his first season at the helm. Upon being hired, the first call he made was to close college friend, Mike Donnelly, who promptly joined him as Villanova's lone Assistant Coach. Team culture, hard work, inspiration, and laughter are the pillars of his coaching philosophy, which depends on empowering his players to play for each other. Matt has a wife of eight years, Joanne, a Villanova alumnus herself. The couple are parents to 3 children, including 1-year-old twins. Aside from coaching hockey, Matt recently changed life pathways, ending a career in Sales & Marketing to become a high school English teacher.
COACH MIKE DONNELLY
Coach Mike was born and raised in the Philadelphia area. He currently resides in Conshohocken and has
grown up fond of Villanova University. Mike started his hockey career at the ripe old age of 4 and
transitioned to competitive hockey at the age of 10. He played youth hockey for the Wintersport Royals,
and as he got older played high school hockey for LaSalle College High School, the Philadelphia Junior
Flyers Midget AAA and Philadelphia Little Flyers Junior B. His competitive playing career ended with a
knee injury but continued to stay in the game and on the ice as a referee. Mike fancies himself as a big
guy with soft hands for scoring silky goals and dishing saucy helpers and still enjoys playing hockey with
guys he played youth hockey and refereed alongside throughout his years.
Coach has become a staunch women’s hockey proponent after he and his wife Jill were blessed with 3
beautiful daughters and hopes that they will continue the tradition of being hockey fans and maybe
even hockey players.
